Baku, 30 April 2009 - Today, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) jointly with the National Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Milli Meclis) conducted a National Parliamentary Forum on Youth Reproductive Health and Rights at the Hyatt Regency Baku Hotel.
The National Parliamentary Forum was held within the framework of the Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in the South Caucasus (RHIYC) Project co-funded by UNFPA and the European Commission.
The meeting was attended by parliamentarians, key government stakeholders and partner NGOs who elaborated on follow-up of the Project in Azerbaijan with the aim to proper formulate the development strategies for sustainable improvement of the situation with youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights at national level.
Among other issues, particular attention was given to presentation of achievements and lessons learned from the implementation of RHIYC project in Azerbaijan by the National Office of Reproductive Health and Family Planning, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan followed by the multi-sectoral discussions on further advancement of youth Reproductive Health and Rights in Azerbaijan.
The Secretary of the European Parliamentary Forum (EPF), which is a strategic partner organization of RHIYC project, and the member of Dutch Parliament participated at the Forum.
The Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in the South Caucasus (RHIYC) is a three-year project launched in 2006 envisaging overall improvement of youth reproductive health in the region through awareness building and networking in the area of youth sexual and reproductive health and rights.
