The United Nations and the Government of Azerbaijan discuss priorities for the next 5 years of cooperation PDF Print E-mail
Baku, 22 May 2009 -- The activities of the United Nations Agencies in support of Azerbaijan’s development are guided by a joint five-year framework – the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). Launched in 2005 and extended by one year while the Government finalized the State Programme for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development, Azerbaijan’s current UNDAF is coming to an end in 2010.
The United Nations Agencies, the Government of Azerbaijan and the UN’s partners in the donor community, the private sector and civil society have jointly started formulating the next 5-year framework, to cover the period 2011-2015. The new framework will be aligned with the State Programme on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development. The Ministry of Economic Development, which has the responsibility under Presidential Decree for monitoring the implementation of the State Programme, leads the Government’s participation in the UNDAF formulation process.

Today, the Ministry of Economic Development hosted a special meting to formally launch the UNDAF 2011-2015 formulation process. UN agencies (both resident and non-resident in Azerbaijan) operating in the country and their Government counterparts participated in the event to start building consensus on the top priorities for the UN in Azerbaijan for the next UNDAF cycle (2011-2015).

Once approved by the Government of Azerbaijan, the new UNDAF will be presented by the Government of Azerbaijan to the Governing Boards of the UN Agencies in March 2010.
