The Government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations launch a New Cooperation Framework (2011-2015)
Baku, 9 July, 2010 - The Government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations in Azerbaijan signed the next United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), a five-year collaboration which aligns the UN prospective development activities with the State Programme for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development (2008-2015). Expectations are high that the role and contribution of the UN system to national development will become more coherent, effective and relevant, as well as provide better support for the government in achieving the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The Deputy Prime Minister, Honourable Abid Sharifov, and the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Fikret Akcura, signed the UNDAF Alognside government officials and representatives from the UN agencies.
 
To support action on climate change, UN to dim lights for ‘Earth Hour’ on Saturday, 27 March 2010
The United Nations will observe “Earth Hour” on Saturday, 27 March, at its Headquarters in New York and other facilities around the world to show its continuing commitment to action on climate change.
Earth Hour, promoted by WWF, the global conservation organization, asks people and organizations to turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday night between 8:30-9:30 p.m. local time, in whatever time zone they may be located.
