FUJI optical teams up with UN Refugee Agency to assist refugees and vulnerable
Following its charity tradition set back in 1981, FUJI Optical, a well known Japanese optometric equipment producer, commissioned its team of six to Azerbaijan on 16 May bringing generous donation of 4000 pre-made eye-glasses, ophthalmic frames as well as other necessary ophthalmologic supplies for refugees, internally displaced people and other socially vulnerable people. Besides, FUJI Optical donated 10 sets of hearing aids. In all, this year donation totaled to some USD 140,000.
From 17 to 23 May, FUJI Optical working closely with the office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan has been distributing eyeglasses and carrying vision screenings in Barda, Yevlakh, Agjebedi, Sheki, and Baku. During the mission, over 1000 Azerbaijani internally displaced person, asylum seekers and socially vulnerable people (elderly, orphans) were examined and received much needed ophthalmologic aids.
FUJI Optical began co-operating with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1983 and had since donated over 94,000 pairs of eyeglasses enabling this agency to address ophthalmologic problems of refugees in various countries. This in-kind contribution, which has been completed by cash contributions, corresponds to USD 1 million. In order to make the contribution more useful for the beneficiaries, FUJI Optical sends along its vision-screening teams to distribute adequate eyeglasses to beneficiaries.
