Subregional Director of International Labor Organization visited Azerbaijan
The Director of the Subregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Mr. Werner Konrad Blenk visited Azerbaijan from 23 April to 25 April 2006.
The main objective of his mission was to discuss the possibility of signing a Decent Work Country Programme between the ILO and its national partners- the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Confederation of Trade Unions and National Confederation of Employers (Entrepreneurs). The Programme promotes decent work as a key component of development policies and as a national policy objective. The three main priorities arose during the process of preparation of the Programme: labour market analyses and forecasting, employment with focus on youth and social dialogue The Programme will be aligned with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs.) The discussions on the Programme will be continued in Geneva during the ILO Annual Conference in June 2006. The Azerbaijani tripartite delegation to the Conference will be led by Mr.Fizuli Alekberov, Minister of Labour and Social Protection.
The mission, also comprising Senior Employment Specialist of the ILO Sub-regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Ms. Martina Lubyova, met with Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, Mr. Artur Rasizade, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Fizuli Alekberov, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Mr. Marco Borsotti, the Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions Mr. Sattar Mehbaliyev, President of the National Confederation of Employers (Entrepreneurs), Mr. Alekper Mamedov, representatives of international organizations and other relevant parties.
The ILO mission also met with the Chairman of the State Statistics Committee (SSC), Mr. Arif Veliyev and participated in the presentation of the results of the School to Work Transition (SWT) project implemented by the SSC.
During the meetings with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United States Agency from International Development (USAID), ILO mission discussed cooperation with the above mentioned organizations in the field of employment promotion and vocational training.
