OHCHR Holds a Seminar on Human Rights Treaty Reporting in Baku

On 5-7 December, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) held a seminar on treaty reporting and follow-up to treaty body recommendations in Baku.

The seminar was conducted in the framework of OHCHR's technical cooperation project "Strengthening of Capacities and Infrastructure for the Protection and promotion of Human Rights in Azerbaijan". It brought together a wide range of government officials working on human rights treaty reporting.

The seminar was aimed at providing general information on human rights treaty reporting, clarifying certain provisions in the treaties and relating them to the actual situation in Azerbaijan. The seminar explored ways of coordinating the process of report drafting and discussed the follow up to treaty body recommendations.

The seminar also focused on the process of preparation of upcoming state party reports, in particular with regard to the reporting to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families as well as on the follow-up to the concluding observations to past state party reports.

The seminar was opened by statements of Mr. Murad Nacafov, Head of International Law and Treaties Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. David Eizenberg, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative.
