OUR MISSION

Recognizing that people are the real wealth of nations, UNDP Azerbaijan works with national and international partners to convert the country's "black gold" - oil - into "human gold" - improved human capital. Through
capacity development at the level of the enabling environment, and the organizational and individual levels in Azerbaijan, UNDP strives to help create an environment in which all people in the country can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative lives in accord with their needs and interests.

Globally, UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges, especially achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. Our areas of focus globally are democratic governance, poverty reduction, crisis prevention and recovery, environment and energy, and HIV/AIDS. In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women.

UN launches educational comic book on Millennium Development Goals

Geneva, 24 January 2011 – With only four years until the 2015 deadline for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the challenge remains to make children fully aware of them and of the important role they can play in achieving them. Sport stars – and football players in particular – often act as role models and, as such, can be of great added value to the UN and their partners, when disseminating key messages and values.

“SCORE THE GOALS: Teaming Up to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals”, a 32-page educational comic book featuring 10 football UN Goodwill Ambassadors, was launched today at the UN in Geneva. The comic book is primarily aimed at 8-14 year old children and provides a fun interactive way to help them understand, familiarize themselves with and reflect about the eight MDGs as well as inviting them to take action through several activities provided in the adjoining educational guide.
