VICTIMS OF SEPTEMBER 11 EVENTS COMMEMORATED IN BAKU

According to Azertag, in the US embassy in Azerbaijan was held a special ceremony on commemorating the memory of victims of terrorist act happened in September 11, 2001 in New-York.
Ambassador of the United States of America to Azerbaijan Mrs. Ann Dors noted that terrorists tried to oppose civilizations through their actions.
But they didn't achieve their intention. Muslims, Christians, Jews and others condemned for this kind of violence. Stressing the fact that in the result of terrorist acts 3 thousand people from 90 countries were killed, Mrs. Ambassador noted that after that tragedy world leading countries joined against that global scourge. Mrs. Dors especially underlined the role of Azerbaijan in global fight against terrorism and thanked Azerbaijani people for their support.
First vice-speaker of Milli Mejlis Mr. Ziyafat Askerov said that events happened 5 years ago demonstrated how horrible terrorism is. Those events demonstrated the importance of common fight against terrorism. Noting various terrorist acts by Armenians, vice-speaker declared that Azerbaijani people are well aware of terror. To this end, in his immediate declaration on the occasion of a blow on September 11, our national leader Mr. Heydar Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan was ready to fully support the United States in fight against terror.
Delivering a speech at the event on behalf of international community, the UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Marco Borsotti said that 11 September was a blow not against one city or one country, but against all humanity. Mr. Borsotti urged all nations and all people to work together in the fight against terrorism.
At the end of the event the participants paid tribute to the victims of September events.

ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL STARTS IN BAKU

The eighth annual East-West International Film Festival started in Baku on Monday.
Movies shot in the CIS and Baltic states as well as other countries in 2005-2006 and films that won different international contests were shown free of charge in cinemas of the capital and the Ibrus Theater during the six-day event, the Union of Cinematographers said.
Three Azerbaijani documentaries and several feature films were shown during the festival.
Cinematographers from more than 10 countries have arrived in Baku to attend the event at the Heydar Aliyev Palace. The Azerbaijani film "Good bye, southern city" directed by Oleg Safaraliyev was screened on the first day of the event.
The closing ceremony of the festival took place at the Azerbaijan Cinema on Saturday.
