HIV-INFECTED TEENAGER GETS PRISON TERM IN AZERBAIJAN

Baku, 6 February: [Baku's] Nasimi district court chaired by Kamaladdin Badalov delivered a verdict on Elnara Ahmadova on 6 February. The 17-year-old HIV-positive prostitute was found guilty under Article 140.1 of the Criminal Code (infecting with HIV). The court sentenced her to a nine-month prison term. Ahmadova has already served seven months of the term and will serve the remaining two months in a penal colony.
To recap, Elnara Ahmadova was "working" in bars and nightclubs where she was looking for clients. She infected 200 people through sexual contacts. She did not inform her clients about her disease. She was registered with the centre for combating AIDS.
