16 years pass since Armenians committed Khojaly tragedy in Azerbaijan. Commemorative events are held in different countries of the world.People visit the monument erected in memory of Khojaly tragedy victims in Azerbaijani capital. Azerbaijani President took part at the ceremony of commemoration held on 16th anniversary of Khojaly genocide in front of the “Voice of Motherland “monument in Baku, APA reports
President Ilham Aliyev commemorated the victims of Khojaly genocide and laid a wreath on the monument .Azerbaijani state and government officials, parliamentarians and public representatives participated in the event.
Armenian military units, with the help of the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the USSR based in Khankendi attacked on Khojaly and slaughtered civilians on the night of February 25-26, 1992. The second battalion of the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment under the leadership of Major Seyran Ohanyan (chief of Armenian Defense Ministry’s headquarters), third battalion under the leadership of Yevgeni Nabokhin, chief of headquarters #1 Valeri Chitchyan and over 50 Armenian officers and ensigns killed 613 civilians, as well as 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people atrociously, they were beheaded, bayonets were thrust into pregnant women’s abdomens, 8 families were killed, 25 children lost both of their parents, 130 one of them, 487 were wounded (76 of them are children), 1275 were captured, 150 were missingAzerbaijani parliament declared February 26 Day of Khojaly genocide.
