IDB TO FUND AZERI PROJECTS IN MULTIPLE SECTORS

The Azerbaijani government and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Action Plan for 2009-2011 in Baku on Monday.
The document, inked by Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev and IDB director for Country Operations Yusuf Khan, covers over 10 projects to be implemented with the bank's financial assistance in the social, finance, agriculture, transport and energy sectors.
Khan said the IDB planned to open a new credit line for a number of banks operating in Azerbaijan. He said IDB intended to cooperate not only with banking majors but also with small banks in the country to boost their competitiveness in the domestic market.

World-known Italian actress Monica Belucci and President of "Cartier International" Company Mr. Bernard Fornas today have visited Baku to attend the inauguration ceremony of "Cartier" boutique.
Cartier watches, jewels and other accessories were demonstrated here.
On the same day, popular French singer Patricia Kaas gave concert at Azerbaijani State Philharmonic after Muslim Magomayev.
FIDE ANNOUNCES BAKU GRAND PRIX PARTICIPANTS

Kenan Hasanov. International Chess Federation (FIDE) approved final list of grand masters to attend Grand Prix in Baku on April 20 - May 6. Shariyar Mammadyarov, Teymour Rajabov and Vugar Hashimov will represent Azerbaijan at the tournament.
Pyotr Svidler (Russia), Qata Kamski (USA), Magnus Karlsen (Norway), Sergei Karyakin (the Ukraine), Michael Adams (Britain), Alexander Orishuk (Russia), Ivan Cheparinov (Bulgaria), Etienn Bakruau (France) You Vang (China), Ernesto Inarkiyev (Russia) and David Navara (Czech Republic) will join them. Winner of six-stage Grand Prix will compete with the 2009 World Cup winner and the winner of this meeting can claim the world chess crown. Winner challenger will compete the world champion in 2010.
