BAKU, TBILISI IN TALKS ON GAS SUPPLIES
ASSA-Irada,
13, March 2008
Georgian Prime Minister Vladimir Gurgenidze held talks in Baku on Thursday over the volume and price of gas Azerbaijan exports to Georgia.
During his short visit, Gurgenidze held private meetings with his Azerbaijani counterpart Artur Rasizada, President of the state oil company SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev and other officials.
Georgia has been importing gas from Azerbaijan since 2007 to meet its demand for gas. Azerbaijan, which exported gas to the neighboring country at $120 per 1,000 cubic meters last year, plans to bring the figure to the world prices in 2008, offering the price at $170-180.
The parties have also to agree the volume of Azerbaijani gas to be exported to Georgia. The Azerbaijani government has stated that it would export 500 million cubic meters of gas in 2008 but Tbilisi seeks an increase in the volume of gas to be imported.
