PRO-GOVERNMENT PARTY TO PICKET US EMBASSY
Assa-Irada,
4, April 2008
The pro-government Modern Musavat Party (MMP) will hold a picket outside the US embassy in Baku on April 9 in protest against the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs' voting against the resolution on situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly.
The party chairman Hafiz Hajiyev said that similar protests would be staged outside the Russian embassy, noting that the exact date of the action is yet to be ascertained. The party plans to continue its protests through rallies, he said.
The MMP accuses the OSCE mediators of not making efforts to find a solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, despite their promises. The party believes that the co-chairs have not made any progress in peaceful settlement of the conflict and therefore demands the suspension of the Minsk Group's activity or inclusion of one of the Turkic states in it.
