PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV PARTICIPATES IN JOINT SESSION ON AFGHANISTAN WITHIN NATO SUMMIT

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended in Bucharest a joint session on Afghanistan with participation of NATO Heads of State and Government and non-NATO nations contributing troops to the International Security Assistance Force.
The session was joined by Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Secretary-General of the UN Ban Ki-Moon, and President of the European Commission Manuel Barroso, as well as representatives of the Japan government and the World Bank.
The event was opened by Secretary General of NATO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer who spoke of Afghanistan's development over the past seven years, including strengthening security, and large-scale reconstruction work in the country.
The NATO chief said the international community will continue efforts towards ensuring a bright future for Afghanistan.
President Ilham Aliyev spoke to the event covering active involvement of Azerbaijan`s peacekeepers in international anti-terror war and the country`s contribution to ensuring peace and security in Afghanistan.
