1 September 2008 AssA-Irada
Kazakhstan will export its oil to Europe through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline from 2011, the Kazakh ambassador to Azerbaijan said.
Serik Primbetov told reporters that Astana was considering over increasing oil production to join the BTC pipeline. He said that the Kazakh government planned to export annually 25 million tons of Kashagan oil via the pipeline, as agreement in this respect was reached after the signing of a document on Kazakhstan’s joining the BTC project by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The Azerbaijani side has prepared proposals in this regard, as new big tankers will be bought and seaports built for the purpose in the years to come, the Ministry of Industry and Energy said.
