EBRD TO CONTINUE INVESTMENT IN AZERBAIJANI BANKS’ CAPITAL DESPITE FINANCIAL CRISIS
20 February 2009
TURAN
The EBRD intends to continue supporting Azerbaijan’s financial sector by strengthening the banks’ capitals and helping them to receive credits, the EBRD-Baku head, Francis Delay said. He said Azerbaijan was protected from the global financial crisis for a short term owing to its low integration into the global market. But long-term influence is possible because of weakening trade partnership and decreasing commodity exchange prices. Azerbaijan’s GDP will most probably decrease 2.8% to 8% in 2009. However, Azerbaijan’s economy has a good potential to withstand the crisis on the whole.
