Azeri president says trade with Iran to double soon

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said here Thursday [19 February] that Iran-Azerbaijan trade volume will increase in the near future.

"We are optimistic that volume of commercial transactions will rise by at least two times," Aliyev told Mottaki, who has travelled to Azerbaijan to attend the Seventh Tehran-Baku Joint Economic Cooperation Commission session.

Aliyev said to this end the two countries intend to promote the north-south corridor and Azerbaijan wants to follow up a project to make the Baku-Astara highway four-way.

He said that the power transfer line stretched to Azerbaijan from Iran's Moghan region can contribute to regional development in general.
